50 Years of the Bathurst 1000 - classic programme cover art

In the late 1980s and throughout the 90s I was lucky enough to be commissioned to produce poster and programme cover art for The Great Race.

Phil Hill, Monza 1961 - "Monza Pop"
Phil Hill in his Ferrari 156 Sharknose heading to race victory, and the 1961 World Championship, in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
This was the last time the banked section of the circuit was used for a Grand Prix.

Peter Brock - Holden Commodore VL, Bathurst 1987
Holden Commodore VL in the 1987 Bathurst 1000. 25th Anniversary, 1987 - 2012.
Peter Brock in the 05 car in the early stages of the race, before the car was retired. Brock changed to the number 10 car to finish in 3rd place. The winning Ford Sierras were later disqualified, handing Brock another Bathurst win.
This race was an official round of the World Touring Car Championship.

Total race time 10 hours, 7 minutes, 48 seconds.
Moss and Jenks averaged just short of 98mph over the 1000-mile race. Stirling Moss said, "We did the last 83 mile section in 30 minutes, 54 seconds, at an average speed of 161.6 miles per hour." (source: Motorsport magazine).

Jack Brabham clinches the 1966 Formula One Drivers World Championship at the Nurburgring.
He became the first driver to win the Formula One Championship in a car bearing his own name.

Original Painting - Pop Art - Ferrari 250GT/LM
Ferrari 250GT/LM at Sandown Park, 1965. Driven by Spencer Martin. Chassis number 6321.
Acrylic on stretched canvas. Size 1200mm x 750mm. SOLD.
Imported from Maranello by David McKay and raced as part of his Scuderia Veloce team. One of 32 hand-made competition cars built in 1964 for the Le Mans 24 Hours. This car was raced with great success by the Scuderia Veloce team in Australia and New Zealand for four years, 1965-1968. It was driven by many talented drivers including three-time World Champion Jackie Stewart in the 1966 Surfers Paradise 12 Hour race. The car is now part of the famous Ralph Lauren Car Collection.
