10 Days of Bathurst: highlights from the Greg McNeill Archive

Bathurst 1000 programme cover, 1993.

Back when poster and magazine artwork was hand-illustrated and highly specialised, I was lucky to be commissioned to produce this cover for the Bathurst 1000 programme.

The "10 Days of Bathurst" countdown to this year's Great Race was suggested by a family member who is a Touring Car history buff and a champion of my work.

1993 Bathurst 1000 winner: Larry Perkins & Gregg Hansford, Holden Commodore VP.  Time: 6h 29m 6.69s.

An early morning trip to Bathurst to watch the start of the 12 Hour race is a unique experience in Australian motorsport.

The cars leave pit lane one at a time, and their individual engine notes echo through the Australian bush.  Their tail lights disappear as they climb Mountain Straight in the inky black of pre-dawn Mount Panorama.
